Interview with AMU Alumnus, Joseph W. Kripp

The following profile is the ninth in a series of student profiles of our students and alumni at the university.

Job title: Director of Safety, Security and Transportation, University of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois

Degree earned: M.A. Security Management, 2013, American Military University

What have you been doing since earning your M.A. in Security Management at AMU?

I received my master’s degree in 2013 as I prepared for my transition from a public sector career in law enforcement to private sector security management. I retired in 2013 as a Supervisory Special Agent in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) after 24 years of service and 11 years as a police officer in a metropolitan police department in the greater Chicago area.

I began working for American Military University as a consultant on the private sector security initiative team. Later, the University of St. Francis hired me as the Director of Safety, Security and Transportation. I’ve been there since then.

Interview with APU Alumna, Heather Groen

If you’re not able to participate in an Earth Day event, then there are many ways you can help contribute working towards our 2020 goal. For example, you could grow your own produce, invest in hydroponic gardening or aquaponics, or just simply plant trees in your own yard for shade canopy and food and shelter for wildlife and birds. Every effort counts. If you do nothing, then you are not improving; you are diminishing.

Taking courses from as wide a variety of instructors as possible brings the knowledge from each into your knowledge base. The wisdom becomes uniquely your own and is greater than the sum of the parts. That’s a successful use of instructor resources. Shop for your instructors like you shop for anything else. They all have bios out there. Learn what each has to offer, engage them frequently, and use them to your best advantage!

As a military spouse it can be hard at times to separate yourself from the military lifestyle, but I knew when I was younger that I wanted to go to college and have a career. My goal for this blog post is to send a message to all my fellow military spouses that continuing your education is important, and it can be done.
